Jill Colangelo is a writer and researcher who studies the relationship between mental health and ultra endurance sport.

My Background

I’m a former triathlete and ultrarunner who researches the often delicate relationship between mental health and participation in ultra endurance sports. I am currently a Research Affiliate in the Department of Forensic Psychiatry at the University of Bern and writing mental health-focused articles at Triathlete Magazine and across Outside Media.

My Thesis: Prevalence and Type of Psychopathology in Ultra Endurance Athletes.

“Athletes do not have difficulty recognizing and receiving care for physiological concerns. They should have the same success in having mental health concerns be recognized and treated.”

For those seeking mentorship:

I offer a 60-minute discussion of both practical and philosophical/psychological aspects of recovery from Overtraining Syndrome and/or Hypothalamic Amenorrhea. You’ll get a list of steps to take in your everyday life that will get you on the right track, plus a deeper dive into the origins of the habits that may have led to current struggles.

For coaches, teams, running/tri clubs, etc:

I give group presentations via Zoom or in person and love speaking to all ages, abilities, types of sports, and levels of expertise. I will tailor the presentation to your group, but can cover topics such as overtraining/overreaching, hypothalamic amenorrhea, the endocrine system, stress, mental health, best practices, consequences, long term effects, etc. To learn more about pricing and scheduling, please contact me directly jillacolangelo@gmail.com.

For those who would like to know more about my research:

We can talk more about the details of my work studying mental health in ultra endurance athletes and what the implications of the findings may be. I am even more excited to talk about how the ultra endurance community, health care practitioners, family, and friends can support athletes to be as healthy as possible.

If you are a student, please do not hesitate to contact me directly via email to talk about reduced/waved fees.
